The Jedi Knights were the guardians of justice in the galaxy and dedicated to protecting the Old Republic. They were eliminated after the Emperor's New Order came to power.
History
The Jedi Knights served the Old Republic as its protectors. When Palpatine declared himself Emperor, the Jedi Knights were exterminated through deception and treachery. Following their elimination, Imperial governors and bureaucrats began to institute a reign of terror upon the galaxy under the name of the Emperor.[1]
