Biography
Early Years
On June 12, 1962, Lucas was seriously injured and hospitalized after an automobile collision with a peer, Frank Ferreira, outside his family home on Sylvan Road in Modesto, California.[1] The accident occurred as Lucas was headed home from the city library in his custom Autobianchi (Fiat) Bianchina Trasformabile when his classmate Frank Ferreira tried to pass him at high speed in his Chevy Impala. He recalls that Ferreira hit him broadside as he was turning into his family drive. Lucas would spend two more weeks in the intensive care unit, giving Lucas time to reflect on life and his ambitions, such as to race cars.[2]
